Sadly Patsey was brutally punished by Epps to show his authority, whipping her near-to-death, he also forced Solomon to aid in the whipping and Patsey once again showed her deep love for Solomon as she proclaimed she would rather Solomon whip her (this was also her only means to defy Epps) : Solomon in turn warned Epps that God would punish him for his sins, while Epps laughed at the idea history would ultimately proved Solomon correct. Patsey would repay Solomon's kindness in turn when she protected him from a furious and violent Epps after she had went to a neighboring plantation to obtain soap (having been forbidden from even washing herself by Epps' psychopathic wife) - she would proceed to get into a heated argument with Epps and finally stood up to his cruelty, reminding him that she proved him with more cotton than any other slave and that while he could take away her dignity and freedom she, at the very least, would be clean. She is forced into labor, picking cotton from plants but is aided by our hero, Solomon Northup, who convinces her not to give in to despair. Patsey is a feisty, strong-willed slave who works under the thumb of her cruel master, Edwin Epps, who deems her to be an object. Nyong'o won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for per portrayal of Patsey. She is played by Lupita Nyong'o, who also portrayed Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Nakia in Black Panther, and Raksha in The Jungle Book. She is an African-American slace who is raped and brutalized by the evil slave-master Edwin Epps. Patsey is a character in from the 2013 film 12 Years a Slave.
